Here's a Type 30 Carbine (6.5 Japanese) we looked over at the show. Interesting buttstock marking on right side. There is an arabic 19 about 11 o'clock above this mark (middle picture)

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon! |

Finally found the photo of the same stamp on my Type-30 carbine. No additional numbers on the stock. Still have no idea what this stamp means.

Anyone else got this marking on anything? I seem to remember a Type 38 some time back with a similar marking. I'll have to see if I can find any reference to it. _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Trey,
It's the kanji character "chu" (中), meaning "middle." In the context of being a buttstock stamp, I believe it's the logo for a Japanese middle school.

Chip, thanks very much, appreciate it, I don't know why I didn't recognize it as that. That is what's on some of my trainers.
I found the picture of the Type 38 that I thought was similar. It was a 28th series I missed out on. (Too busy 'waffling over $25 on asking price). It was marked on the left side.
Aren't school markings usually on the right side?

Trey,
That's a very nice 28th Series. I've seen very few 22nd-28th Series Type 38 rifles that are school-marked. Congrads!

Chip, I missed that one. Just had the pictures. Thought I might as well post them. _________________ Subscribe to BANZAI!

Right.....didn't read your full description as I was too busy looking at the pretty pictures.
To answer your question about stock markings placement, I've seen school brands on both sides, but most are like you indicated: on the right-hand side.
