I have a Arisaka 99 Short, with a barrel serial number from Nagoya series 2. The barrel and the front barrel band have the SAME number.
There isn't a s/n on the bolt, bolt head or the extractor - none. There is a s/n on the safety knob, but it doesn't the match the barrel. To me, that means the bolt is not an original part to the rifle. My questions are; why isn't a s/n on the bolt, bolt head or extractor? Should I make the assumption that the safety knob is an original part of the bolt, bolt head and extractor?

when you say barrel number, do you mean the receiver where the arsenal mark is? Typically there would be a serial number on the bolt body, then depending on where the bolt was made (arsenal) and time period, may or may not have a number on the extractor and firing pin, safety was always numbered. There are unnumbered bolts and parts that are correct for unnumbered guns. There are also some attributed to Armorer's Kits that are unnumbered. I have 3 or 4 unnumbered Kokura inspected bolt bodies and bolts that I have found in various rifles over the years. Whether there was an armorer's kit around here that got broken up for parts at some point will never be answered.

I didn't pay to much for that old Arisaka, I just bought it a little bit too soon!
